about SOSSA

SOSSA is a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing awareness about sibling sexual abuse to the community in an effort to help fight against sexual violence.

SOSSA's story

SOSSA was founded in 2008 by Jessica Garay and Corinn deWaard in Portland, Oregon. Jessica, a survivor of sibling sexual abuse, disclosed her abuse to friends and family at age 28 and began seeking support and resources associated with her experience. Finding little to none, Corinn and Jessica found inspiration to reach out to other survivors, research the topic, and create a healing environment for other families. But it’s bigger than that. Sibling sexual abuse is a secret, it’s minimized, it’s locked inside bedrooms and hearts and SOSSA is working to unlock those doors. With the help of many supporters who believe in the mission, SOSSA provides information and education and will one day yell from rooftops that this must stop. And people are starting to hear.
